Diagnostics

Dr. Calotti's team of specialty-trained diagnostic technicians and photographers specialize in advanced ophthalmic diagnostic imaging and testing. Most tests can be ordered and performed in the office and on the same day as your exam. The use of advanced diagnostics ensures earlier diagnosis and management of your disease.

IOL Master

This is one of the most sophisticated and accurate ways to determine the power of the intraocular lens (IOL) implant for cataract surgery. The IOL Master allows for fast, accurate measurements of multiple areas of the eye, such as eye length and surface curvature, which are necessary for cataract surgery.

Corneal Topography

This is a non-invasive medical imaging technique for mapping the surface curvature of the cornea, the outer structure of the eye.

Auto Refractor

This machine provides an objective measurement of a person's refractive error.

A-Scan Biometry

This is an ultrasound device used for determining the length of the eye.

Corneal Pachymetry

A pachymeter is a medical device used to measure the thickness of the eye's cornea.

B-Scan Ultrasound

This test offers a two-dimensional cross-sectional view of the eye as well as the orbit. This type of diagnostic tool is most helpful when there is difficulty examining the eye normally. A B-scan can help accurately view other eye structures like the lens, choroid, sclera, vitreous and retina.

Visual Evoked Potential (VEP) and Electroretinogram (ERG) Tests

The visual evoked potential (VEP) and electroretinogram (ERG) are two tests which can give us clues about the working of the visual pathway from the eye along the optic nerve to the brain.

The tests can identify if a part of the visual pathway is not working properly ? for example, the retina, optic nerve or brain. They can also give an estimate about the quality of pattern vision. The tests do not tell us about the interpretation of the visual information after it arrives in the brain.

Visual Field Testing

Conducting a visual field test helps distinguish problems with your peripheral vision from problems with central vision. A visual field test may detect central or peripheral retinal disease, some eyelid conditions including ptosis (drooping eyelid), optic nerve disease, and diseases affecting the visual pathways within the brain. Visual field testing is also used to monitor your disease progression and adjust treatment appropriately.

Optical Coherence Tomography

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an important noninvasive imaging technique that provides high resolution, cross-sectional images of the retina, the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and the optic nerve head.
